To most of us over here, Sweden means IKEA furniture, Jönköping matches, and quality pop music. We were talking about the last on tonight’s Outerbeat.
We went all woof as the show was dedicated to Labrador Records, “Sweden’s and the world’s finest purveyor of pop music” in their own words. Founded in 1997 by Bengt Rahm and merged with Johan Angergård’s Summersound Records a couple of years later, the label has been tirelessly sniffing out good Swedish music and bring it in to us all over the globe.
In homage to the label, we chose 10 Labrador artists and played a song from each artist (trust me, it was hard to pick just ten). We even had requests sent in hours before the show started. We played both old and new artists, ranging from Tribeca‘s synth-tinged pop to Pelle Carlberg‘s amusing parody of… you know who (or you will, when you listen to the podcast). Oh, and Acid House Kings and Club 8 as well, naturally. 😉
